Istanbul universities are kind of swanky

Apparently, the KoÇ Foundation, which runs the university, makes up fifteen percent of Turkey so I shouldn’t have been surprised when I saw the caliber of facilities here. One thing I find interesting is  the level of service provided to students. For example, I live in a dorm and my sheets get changed every day. They provide fresh towels, neatly folded to go along with the bed. There are white hotel slippers, body wash, shampoo, and conditioner as well. I was not aware I was checking into a hotel.

Another thing is, I notice people don’t clean up after themselves–not because they’re lazy–but because they simply have a culture of staff doing it instead. At Starbucks, I would never think to leave an empty coffee cup and used napkins just lying on the table. Here though, it seems to be OK. At the restaurant below the pool, there’s a full-fledged restaurant where staff will wait on you hand and foot. I still can’t get used to the fact that there are no trash cans anywhere so you have no choice but to just ditch trash on an empty table for someone else to clean.

I realize that the services might be unique to a private institution, and that it’s possible the room service was for those who were working at the university as we were. Either way, I’m not complaining.
