I Decided!
I decided to go back to school, and from school is where I am currently writing this post. Oh I was hesitant at first, and I still am unsure about this choice, but it’s done and I’m here, so I’m going to enjoy it.
I chose to rack up the 50K debt and take a gamble on an International Education Development degree in New York City.
Sure I could probably be doing something else, but honestly, this is the best thing I could be doing with my time right now. It’s strange to be back in school. I feel as though I don’t care nearly as much as I used to, as if I’m sort of beginning with a senior slacker mindset. I see this as a mark of maturity, that there are other things in life that matter more than a GPA.
Ultimately, the subject is interesting and I’m always learning something, so there’s nothing to lose here (except the criminal tuition!!).
I am studying International Education Development, with a focus on Language, Literacy, and Schools, which marries all of my experiences and interests quite nicely. There’s a good mix of people who are super experienced, with years at the World Bank under their belt for example, and a few people like me with some international experience, just trying to advance. People are elusive in grad school though, as they often have other jobs and responsibilities, and commute from places like Yonkers and Long Island (gasp!). there are a few of us though, that try to consistently hang out, which is nice. It’s nice to feel that other people are going through the same thing as you.
