So What Have I Been Up To?

I joined a company called Envision for a summer conference program as an education support person, but also ended up as a classroom facilitator for middle school STEM curriculum. If it all sounds very nonspecific, that’s because it is. It’s sometimes tricky to explain, but so far, I’ve gotten to this: it’s like being a camp counselor for middle school, only a lot less outdoors, and a lot more paperwork. The “scholars” affectionately refer to it as “nerd camp”. So yes, I have been working at nerd camp for the past three weeks. I’m not even going to wonder if these these kids are smarter then me. they are. I just had a 12-year-old explain to me what interstitial cystitis was, and her recommendation to fix this bladder malfunction.

Besides the work experience, this gig is a great way to see cities I’ve never seen. Philly was exciting, and Chicago is such a fresh breath of air (I kinda want to pick up and move here!). I’m meeting new people and learning about diverse concepts not limited to STEM.

So anyway, it’s a cool summer job. It’s also making me feel like I need to take off and travel somewhere for a while…
